Our dance style guide | Simplifying the different dance disciplines!

New to dance and not sure what style to try? Read this!

We totally understand that it can be really overwhelming getting into dance if you've never danced before, especially when it comes to choosing what TYPE of dance you want to try - so we thought we'd give you a super brief overview as to the different styles, to try and make that decision a little easier. Here goes:

Ballroom - Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Vienesse Waltz and Quickstep. Ballroom dancing is a traditional style of dancing and is danced in hold with you dance partner. Although there are fast elements to this style it is considered at a social level to be slower than the Latin American dance style. However, at a competition level speed, timing and grace are of upmost importance.

Latin American - Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive. Latin dancing while considered to be more modern has been danced through centuries in the streets of South America and other Latin Countries. It is fast moving, exciting and great for fitness! This style is danced to modern music which will really get the body moving.

New Vogue - This style is danced in sequence and encompasses ballroom steps with an open hold and is lots of fun to learn socially and competitively!

If you're totally new to dance, we suggest beginning with Latin or Ballroom first and then progressing to New Vogue.

There you go! Have you picked one that sounds 'a bit like you'? If not, don't panic, all of these styles lend themselves well to one another so you'll pick up good dance principles that are interchangeable between styles, should you decide to change a few months down the track.

If you're STILL not sure - flick Dan a phone call or email, he will be happy to help you out!
